If your green will be 500 square feet or less, and if you’re handy, self-installation is a viable option. The difficulty of installation increases with the size. Larger greens require more planning and precision both in setting the base and actual installation of the turf.
We recommend that all greens over 500 square feet be installed by a professional, but the choice is yours.
For your convenience in planning and budgeting, here’s a brief overview of the installation process:
- Planning… The first and most crucial step
- Design and layout… be sure you know where your green belongs.
- Land clearing. Clear the area of vegetation and all debris before you begin work.
- Installation of a ground stabilization tarp to ensure a long-lasting, solid foundation
- Setting the cup sleeves.
- Installation of the aggregate or concrete base. This is the most labor-intensive step in the process, and perfection is required.
- Placement of the turf. This will probably involve seaming of two or more sections
- Cutting, trimming, and permanent setting of the cups.
- Trimming and shaping the outer edges of the green. A fringe, if desired, is installed during this stage.
- Application of fill material or top dressing
- Landscaping.
As a general rule of thumb, plan on an installation of 500 square feet or less taking two adults one and a half to two and a half days from start to finish. |
